Don't be an idiot without a leash.
No, seriously, don't be. It's not cool.
It's fine when you're out there alone and there's no one around. I look for places and times for that constantly. To be alone, just US.
But when there are more people or more dogs, no.
I'm not ME first. Others don't have to adapt to how I'd like the world to be.
It's a matter of respect.
I respect you, you respect me.
So when I see people or more dogs, I put a leash on him. Without drama. Without shoving my ego in your face.
And we keep at what we're doing. Walking or running or whatever we're up to.
If you don't have a leash, I'll sell you one. Or a beautiful collar with a handle.
So you don't act like an idiot when you cross paths with people.
"Just leave him, he doesn't want to be your friend" or "Chill, mine doesn't do anything"…
Un-fucking-believable.
If I were given 1 euro for every time I've heard one of those phrases, maybe not a Ferrari, but a Dacia Sandero I'd buy for sure.
People without respect. With no empathy and less love for their dog than they claim to have.
I've walked three Presas on leash at the same time and I've heard these phrases.
Lady, for God's sake, don't you see Fido could pass to a better life.
Seriously. The same way you don't throw cigarette butts out the car window, or spit in the doorway, pick up your dog when it's time. You're not more animal-loving nor do you love him less for doing it.
Quite the opposite.
You simply show more respect and civility than the average dog owner.
And that's a good thing.

Sometimes a truck.
I shiver when I see people getting confident and letting the dog loose right next to the road while they look at their phone.
Cars hiss like bullets. They're scary.
"It's just that he doesn't like the leash".
Yeah. Nor do I like paella with shiny rice. Nor Mondays. But I get my arse up and go to work.
It's not what you like, it's what needs doing when it needs doing.
The leash doesn't make him less free. It avoids problems and accidents. For others and for HIM or HER.
A dog off-leash in a place he shouldn't be isn't a free dog. He's a dog playing with an accident, and you, if you're there, are that, an idiot for not using the leash.
He's a dog.
Any stimulus could make him run for what he is.
Then come the tears.
But avoiding them is very simple.
Put a leash on him when it's time. And stay alert. Give him your time. Don't let taking him out be the excuse to waste time on fucking Instagram.
Take him off-leash whenever you can.
And when you can't, then you tie him up short. It's fine. Take the chance to tell him a quick joke. Or look him in the eyes and tell him you love him.
